Learn more about our new technology leader:
You have over two decades of experience at startups and Fortune 500 companies. What originally got you interested in technology?
By the time I got to middle school, I was obsessed with the notion that excessively manual and monotonous tasks needed to be automated as a way to improve human productivity. When I saw what my first computer—which was a Microsoft DOS PC—could do, I instantly fell in love with it. This was back in the early ‘90s. I slowly abandoned my interests in Biology and decided to get an Engineering degree to help me pursue my newfound passion in technology, specifically related to computers.
What excites you the most about joining Rocket Lawyer?
The fact that Rocket Lawyer makes legal services more affordable to people and reduces the complexities involved with such services, resonated very well with me. Millions of people have already benefited from Rocket Lawyer’s products and after Charley outlined his vision for the company, I really couldn’t be more excited.
Besides that, I was really impressed with the people that I spoke to during the interview process. Each one of them exemplified what I’d look for in a winning team, both from an IQ and EQ perspective.
Tell us about your life outside of work. What are some of your hobbies?
I am an outdoorsy person. I love nature and try my best to observe and appreciate what she has to offer every time I step out for a walk. That, combined with my interests in meditation, really helps me stay calm even during chaotic times. I’d recommend meditation to anyone that has to deal with stress at work. I also love to travel and am constantly looking for inspirational ideas to plan for my next bucket list adventure.
What 5 words would you choose to describe your personality?
Pragmatic, Gritty, Empathetic, Decisive and Experimental.
If you could pick up one new talent or skill, what would it be?
I’ve always fancied the way sports coaches can build camaraderie within their teams and ultimately set them up for success. If I had a magic wand, I’d use it to instantly pick up this skill.
What inspires you as a leader?
I am naturally a people person. Nothing inspires me more than the opportunity to help people realize their full potential and career goals.
Anything else you’d like to tell us that we didn’t ask?
Many people have asked me what it takes to be successful at a technology startup. There are actually many traits that could make one successful at a startup, but the one that I believe is the most valuable trait is grit. I’ve found this to be a very common trait in people that are successful at startups.
