Tell us a bit about you and your business.
My name’s Georgia and I’m a HR professional. I worked for a variety of companies for 20 years and have decided now to launch my own HR consultancy service. So I guess I’m in the start up phase.
There’s a number of reasons why I went on my own. I wanted freedom. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the work of HR and supporting businesses. I’ve worked in the public and private sector so I know that I can get to grips with different businesses, structures and understandings. But, I want to work for a variety of businesses as opposed to just the one. I believe that by working across organisations, I can bring greater benefit. I can bring in best practice from working HR in different industries and businesses together and give a better HR service.
What’s your biggest business achievement so far?
Having the realisation and then taking steps to making Square HR a reality. Lots of people talk about consultancy because it’s a real skill to have. I’ve thought about consultancy for a while but to be here now, putting those steps in place, makes it all real. It’s super exciting so I’d say this is my biggest business achievement; getting off the ground.
How was Rocket Lawyer able to help you?
As a HR professional, I have a thorough understanding of employment law. What I didn’t have though is the law around setting your business up and trading as a business.
I came across Rocket Lawyer through a Google search but I had heard of Rocket Lawyer before in a community group of HR consultants I’m part of. Within those circles, Rocket Lawyer is well regarded so I thought I’d give it a try.
My first impression was being surprised that there’s so much information. This makes the website really great. There’s no hard selling into using the templates. I can just browse and learn about what I need to know. For example, I learnt about the different types of laws, when they apply and what statements and documents I need.
What’s great is that all the information there was for free! No login required either. I spent a lot of time browsing the pages and getting an understanding of what I needed.
When it came to downloading a document I had made, I learnt even more on what else I needed to do. It was great that I could access the documents I made after my free trial was up too.
Overall, I’ve had a positive experience using Rocket Lawyer.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned since you’ve started your own business?
There’s so much to learn about running a business! Transition from being employed to a business owner is a learning curve. You think you can just turn up and get clients but there’s so much more to it. You need to pivot to ensure you’re covering everything, from marketing to bookkeeping.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m in the start up phase and whilst that’s an exciting phase to be in, I’m super excited to just get established and ultimately become successful. It’s been a long time in the making so I’m going to give it my best shot, but I can’t wait to get stuck in!
