Each state has its own deadlines for registering to vote, and these deadlines may vary by the way in which you register (for example, online, in-person, or by mail). Some states allow for same-day registration during early voting and on Election Day. Some states may have different registration deadlines for special elections or primaries.

The following state-by-state guide will help you determine your voter registration deadline for the upcoming election on November 3rd.

Illinois October 6th (Oct. 18th for online registration);
Same-day registration Oct. 7th through Election Day, although availability varies by county.
Indiana October 5th
Iowa October 24th (Mail-in registrations must be postmarked by Oct. 19th or received by Oct. 24th);
Same-day registration on Election Day.
Kansas October 13th
Kentucky October 5th
Louisiana October 4th (Oct. 13th for online registration)
Maine October 13th; Same-day registration on Election Day.
Maryland October 13th; Same-day registration during early voting and on Election Day.
Massachusetts October 24th
Michigan October 19th; Same-day registration during early voting and on Election Day.
Minnesota October 13th; Same-day registration during early voting and on Election Day.
Mississippi October 5th
Missouri October 7th
Montana October 26th; Same-day registration on Election Day.
Nebraska October 16th (In-person on Oct. 23rd)
Nevada October 6th (Oct. 29th for online registration)
Same-day registration during early voting and on Election Day.
New Hampshire October 27th; Same-day registration on Election Day.
New Jersey October 13th
New Mexico October 6th; Same-day registration available until Oct. 31st at your County Clerk’s office.
New York October 9th (Mail-in registrations must be received by Oct. 14th)
North Carolina October 9th; Same-day registration during early voting.
North Dakota No registration necessary.
Ohio October 5th
Oklahoma October 9th
Oregon October 13th
Pennsylvania October 19th
Rhode Island October 4th
South Carolina October 2nd for in-person registration; email or fax by Oct. 4th; postmarked by Oct. 5th for mail-in.

Utah October 23rd; Same-day registration during early voting and on Election Day.
Vermont No deadline for registration. Same-day registration available every day, including Election Day.
Virginia October 13th

West Virginia October 13th (For mail-in, must be received by Oct. 16th.)
Wisconsin October 14th (Oct. 30th if registering in person.)
Same-day registration on Election Day.
