Get the Right State Form.
Make sure that you find the right one for your entity. Even though the same information requests may be on the C Corporation and LLC forms, they will not count if you fill out the wrong form. Get the forms for your state here.
Complete the Form, Noting any Special Requirements.
In Delaware, for instance, businesses are recommended to include the Filing Cover Memo to expedite the process and avoid potential loss of information.
Pay the Registration Fee.
Most states have different breakdowns depending on how fast you want the change to occur. On average, a general Certificate of Change of Agent costs about $50. However, you can request expedited service, depending on your situation. The price quickly scales from $100 to $2,000 depending on how fast you need it done. In some states, you can complete it within an hour. A general, non-expedited change takes about two to three weeks.
Send it.
Once the application is completed and the payment prepared, you need to send it to your Department of State or your State Small Business Administration. Most of the time, you'll get confirmation of the filing, though in some states, you must request that confirmation.
