You may think that it would be easy to adopt an alien minor relative, but that's not necessarily true. Many factors can waylay your adoption, including going through all the U.S. adoption procedures or the fact that your child relative might simply be prohibited from entering and/or living in the United States.  An important rule of thumb to keep in mind is that the child must still must meet the definition of an orphan to be considered eligible for adoption overseas.  You must go through the adoption process as you would if the child was not a relative of yours.  Often, it's best to seek the advice of an immigration attorney for help.
