While the Olympics tried to compete with Rocket Lawyer’s UK office opening in London, we created our own “news” in Chicago (read on to see what I mean).
Last Friday night at the ABA Annual Convention in Chicago we hosted over 100 lawyers for our first Cocktails & Comedy Sociable Lawyer Premier event. The standing room only crowd took a break from the dozens of committee meetings and CLE presentations to laugh it up with Chicago’s very own iO Comedy Group performing an Improv act called Whirled News Tonight.
Their bits pretty much summed up our time in Chicago (or what I now like to call “one of the hottest cities on earth”). The group created some fake news based off of real news articles submitted from the crowd. They touched on the conference itself being in the ABA’s hometown of Chicago as well as the hours upon hours the lawyers spend in hotel conference rooms daydreaming about how they’re going to spend their nights.
They did miss a few extremely important things though, in my most humble opinion. Most notably, our presence at the GP Solo & Small Firm Division’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. It’s not everyday that a division turns 50 you know!
After all was said and done, we left Chicago having made some great new friends at our new booth and having added a few pounds from the pizza and hot dogs. For the record, all I’m saying is that Chicago’s pizza fills you up, but I still stand by my assertion that it’s much closer to being lasagna than actual pizza and it will never contend with New York pizza. I won’t even try to defend San Francisco in this battle.
I’m certainly looking forward to our upcoming events here in California and across the country. If you’re interested in learning about where we’ll be next or hosting an event yourself give me a shout.
