There are basic requirements that must be met in order for you to be able to adopt a child.  If you are unmarried, you have to be 25 years old.  If you are married, you have to adopt the child together.  Your spouse has to be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident.  Also, you must go through a criminal background check, fingerprinting, and a home study to make sure you are suitable to adopt a child.
