Running a Maryland LLC

Forming a Maryland LLC has many advantages. But before you reap the benefits, find out what you need to do to complete the process and run your business:
Step 1. Name a Registered Agent
To keep people from claiming that their important tax and legal documents got “lost in the mail,” Maryland asks that all Maryland LLCs have a Registered Agent and office within the state.
Step 2. Apply for an EIN
The IRS assumes that your Maryland LLC has been legally formed once you apply for an Employer Identification Number.
Step 3. Write Up an Operating Agreement
Maryland does not require you to create an LLC Operating Agreement but they do stipulate that it must be written.
Step 4. Have an Organizational Meeting
Just as the name suggests, an organizational meeting is when you and your LLC come together to organize the structure of your business. Maryland doesn’t offer any specific requirements for this meeting.
Step 5. Turn in an Initial Report
An Initial Report provides a great overview of your Maryland LLC. The state does not require you to submit one.
