Rebekah didn’t always know she was meant to be an entrepreneur. Raised on the sunny beaches of Florida, she joined the Navy as a young woman, but wasn’t sure where to go next when her service ended. As it happened, fate intervened.

The day she left the Navy, her truck bent an axle and forced her to take it in for service. While she waited for the mechanic to fix her truck, Rebekah noticed a phone ringing inside the office. So she answered it. Impressed by her initiative, the mechanic offered her a job on the spot.

Rebekah worked at the service station for five years, but when the mechanic retired, she was once again at loose ends. After working a series of odd jobs, she followed a friend out to Los Angeles, where she took a job at a sports apparel company. But one day, a bartender friend of hers overhead a customer asking for car advice, and he advised her to call Rebekah. “That one person started my business,” she said.

Her reputation quickly grew, and soon she was working on cars every weekend for eighteen hours a day. It was too much to handle in addition to a full-time job, so in January 1991, she quit her job at the clothing store and founded Carchick.

Twenty-four years later, Carchick has become one of the most successful, innovative, and well-recognized auto repair businesses in the country. A woman-owned car shop is rare enough, but what really sets Carchick apart is the service. With its highly technical language, auto repair can be intimidating for newcomers, but Rebekah specializes in making all customers feel welcome.

Surprisingly, Rebekah didn’t originally join Rocket Lawyer to find documents for Carchick. Instead, she turned to us to create a rental agreement to replace the one her landlords were using. (Ever the entrepreneur, she realized that she could run the property better than they could, so she bought them out and ran it herself.) But once she discovered how easy it was to create documents with Rocket Lawyer, she started using the site for her car repair business, too.

“The website is so simple, it’s really great,” Rebekah said. “It’s easy to navigate, and when you’re looking for something, you can find what you need.” Since joining Rocket Lawyer three years ago, she’s created a variety of documents for Carchick, including Release of Liability forms to protect her clients and her business from potential legal disputes. “The wording in Rocket Lawyer documents is very clear,” she said. “What I’ve learned about the law is the importance of making it clear, because it’s useless in court if neither party understands it.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
