Power of Attorney

Sometimes you need a little help making big decisions. A power of attorney establishes safeguards in case you become incapacitated or unable to handle your finances for some reason. We can help you create this important estate planning tool.

What is a power of attorney? It's a document that designates a specific person who's allowed to manage your finances if you're unable. This could be for any number of reasons, like a health issue or being out of the country. Your power of attorney can write checks, run your business, manage your household affairs or whatever you permit. There are several types of power of attorney. A general power of attorney grants broad powers to your "agent," or the person you designate to have these powers, allowing them to make legal, financial and business decisions for you if needed. A special power of attorney grants only certain powers to the agent, and you can designate different power of attorney contacts for different aspects of your life, like medical, financial and business matters.

Your power of attorney options can be even more specialized. If you're curious about how to use this legal tool for your estate planning, you might consider speaking with an attorney who can explain how they work in a little more detail. But if you feel like you're ready to get started, we can provide you with a power of attorney here.

Below you'll find some helpful articles on creating your power of attorney. And if you decide you'd like to find a lawyer to help with your estate planning, we're always happy to help with that.
