Consults provide you with legal information, not legal advice. They are private and secure, but not covered by attorney-client privilege. RLPS can also provide you with professional legal advice tailored to your situation for an additional cost and upon agreement to the RLPS Services Agreement.
When you Ask a Legal Pro, you'll type out your question or describe your situation, then one of our experts will send you a response within 1 business day. With a Live Consult, you'll schedule a 20-minute Google Meet at your convenience and talk to your pro in real time
Legal information explains the law and your general options, while legal advice tells you what you should do in your specific situation. Legal advice requires a signed service agreement with an attorney that establishes attorney-client privilege, whereas legal information can be provided without this formal relationship.
Your free Live Consult includes a 20-minute phone call with a Legal Pro to discuss your situation. After the call, your pro will send a written summary along with recommended next steps (if applicable). You can access this summary anytime in your member dashboard.
Live Consults are included with your Rocket Lawyer membership at no additional cost. During your trial period, you can schedule up to one Live Consult.
After you schedule your Live Consult, we'll match you with a Legal Pro who’s licensed in your state and has expertise in the situation you describe. You'll receive two emails – one to confirm the scheduled time, and another to let you know who your Legal Pro is.
You can cancel your Live Consult through your member dashboard and request a new one when you’re ready. If you’re still in your free trial, you’ll have to wait until the trial period has ended to reschedule.
If your Legal Pro needs to reschedule, you'll receive an email notification directing you to your dashboard, where you can select a new time.
In rare cases, there may not be a Legal Pro available to meet at your requested time. If this happens, you can submit a new Live Consult request, Ask a Legal Pro for a written response, or use Rocket Copilot for immediate insights.
After the call, your Legal Pro will provide a written meeting summary that will appear in your member dashboard. In some cases, the summary may also include recommended next steps. If you have additional questions beyond what was already discussed, you can submit a new question through Ask a Legal Pro or book another Live Consult.
