It comes as no surprise to most of you that our sales have been down for the past _________________. Rumors of potential downsizing have been circulating, and it is my sad duty at this time to confirm that some of those rumors have been true. Beginning _________________, we will be reducing our staff by _________________.
Naturally, you want to know if your job is among those which will be eliminated. I wish I could tell you for certain. We have only just decided that we have no alternative but to reduce staff; the next step is to decide which positions and individuals will be leaving the company.
If you are interested in taking early retirement or leaving voluntarily for some other reason, let your manager know immediately. We would certainly prefer to release only those individuals who may already be interested in leaving.
Please bear with us at this difficult time as we make these painful decisions. We will let you know of our decisions as soon as we make them. Right now, we expect to have the new staff list by _________________.
