Profile:

I graduated from the University of California at Davis Law School in 1987.  I have been practicing land use, zoning and conservation easement law for the past 21 years.  I am licensed to practice in California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.  However, I can practice in any state in the U.S. which formally allows me to practice by affiliating or associating with local counsel.  In conservation easement transactions, both the land trust and landowner should be represented by legal counsel.

As the founder and sole attorney working for Conservation and Preservation Counsel, LLC, I practice in the specialized field of negotiating and drafting conservation easements for land trusts and landowners.  By using conservation easements landowners and developers are paid market rate for their development rights (or receive a tax deduction).  These development rights are then "retired" and the underlying land, which is still owned by the landowner, is protected from development in perpetuity.
