December 31, 2013 — It’s been said that Christmas isn’t a season, but a feeling. Nowhere was this sense of joy and celebration more apparent than at Rocket Lawyer’s recent holiday party. Naughty and nice Rocket Lawyer team members, friends and family partied hard in the local Exploratorium’s new East Gallery space off Pier 15, a venue which proved to be both educational and awesome. Where else can you sip on a vodka tonic while learning about stem cell research and earthworms? Speaking of vodka tonics, the “Blast Off Bar” loosened up even the most dedicated Grinches and Scrooges. Special legal-themed drinks designed by our Office Manager, Lizette De Arkos and HR Associate, Tyler Attenhofer, included:

  • The Prenup (vodka + cranberry),
  • The Confidentiality Agreement (rum + coke),
  • The Last Will & Testament (whiskey + ginger)
  • Operation Agreement (gin & tonic)
  • Divorce Settlement (Margarita on the rocks)
  • Hold Harmless Agreement (non-alcoholic drink)

“After a busy year, this was a great opportunity for us to come together and play as hard as we work!” Lizette said. For the hungry foodies, the party did not disappoint. Delicious California-themed hors d'oeuvres were served aplenty, including oysters, smoked salmon, ceviche and the ever-popular sushi rolls. For the seafood-averse, a variety of meat and tofu skewers could be spun whimsically through savory, flavored vapors that rose from a fog machine, setting the mood quite nicely. Our collective sweet tooth was satisfied by a nitrogen ice cream station, where a plethora of yummy toppings were available to pile onto the creamy results of our inner child’s favorite gastronomic science experiment. Thanks to La Bonne Cuisine, everyone (now) knows that flash freezing with dry ice is the secret to a truly creamy dairy dessert! For the adrenaline junkies and photogenic rock stars, the flipbook station (shout-out to Action Flipbooks!) presented endless opportunities to capture the joy of the evening and engage in shameless air guitar antics in sync with the our live music performers, the Groove Thang Band. With a variety of boas, wide-brimmed hats, and rubber chickens to choose from, no one came out the other side without wide smiles, or with their dignity intact. For the gamblers and risk takers, casino games and raffle contests were available to spice up the evening, courtesy of Interactive Games. Although the monetary value of the blackjack, roulette, and craps chips was nonexistent, the battle of egos was high-stakes and suspenseful. The biggest winners of the night, however, were the lucky raffle ticketholders.

Prizes included a year’s membership to 24-Hour Fitness, a Pebble Smart Watch, a $50 Amazon gift card, and a $15 Peets Coffee gift card. Best of all, all proceeds went to Modest Needs, a non-profit organization that works to prevent families from slipping into poverty. Read more here about this organization’s amazing work and what you can do to help.  Thanks to all who turned out for this rockin’ holiday party and made the evening a smashing success! (While managing not to smash anything.) Many thanks to Nick Dolph Photography for capturing the fun had by all at this event!
