People who are planning to get married often sign a Prenuptial Agreements. Prenup agreements typically describe the procedure by which assets will be divided in the event that the couple divorces or when one of the partners passes away. Prenuptial Agreement forms typically include details regarding issues such as spousal support and/or division of property. There is no legal requirement that the parties to a marriage enter into a prenup contract, but many couples choose to do so.

Even though people are not likely to enter into marriage with the assumption that their union will not last, statistics tell us that many marriages do in fact end in divorce. Signing prenup forms can simply be a way of protecting the financial interests of individuals who get married, as well as those of their heirs. These legal documents provide a contractual means of ensuring that there will be no question regarding how assets should be divided in the event that the marriage does not last.
