Letter Refusing to Pay for a Charge on your Credit Card

This letter can be sent to a credit card company to refuse charges on your credit card account.

Where appropriate, send a copy, not the original, of the statement and/or receipt to the card Issuer. Keep copies of all correspondence with the Issuer, including copies of statements and receipts. You may need to refer to them later or may need to send additional copies to the Issuer if you do not receive a prompt response to your inquiry.

Be Careful with Your Credit Card Number
Take care not to let others see or hear your credit card number. Most merchant receipts don't show your full credit card number. However, you should destroy and dispose of receipts statements and old-style carbon charge slips that do contain your full number or imprint of your credit card. Never give your card number over the telephone unless you initiated the transaction with a reputable company. If you have questions about a company, check with the local consumer protection office or Better Business Bureau before ordering.
