Tenant's Notice to Terminate Tenancy

This letter can be used by a tenant(s) to notify a landlord of his or her intention to terminate the tenancy early.

The tenant should review the original rental lease agreement to determine what type of default provisions apply to early termination.

The tenant should be aware that although he or she will no longer be occupying the leased premises, he or she remains responsible for complying with the lease agreement for the remainder of the lease term unless released by the landlord. For example, if a tenant terminates a one-year lease in the third month, that tenant may be responsible for the remaining nine months rent to the landlord.

The tenant should also provide the landlord with written notice of his or her forwarding address.
