Free Request to Place a Password on a Bank Account

If applicable, the bank may require that you include certain documentation. Contact the bank to determine what additional information, if any, may be required.

Photocopies, not the original copies, of any relevant documents should be included with the letter (unless otherwise required by the bank). You should keep a copy of all written communications with the bank and maintain a written summary of all oral communications.

Passwords should be arbitrary and not a word or number that an identity thief could discover. However, the password should not be something that you will forget. Please note, the password does not provide protection for ATM or debit card transactions. In order to change your password on your ATM or debit card, you should contact your bank directly for instructions.

Please note that for additional security, your password will not be saved as Smart Data by the program. Therefore, be sure to print out your document when you're finished since your password will not be part of your saved document file. Otherwise, you will need to retype it after opening your saved file. For more information about Smart Data, please refer to the Help file in this program.

The purpose of this letter is to allow you to require a password to accompany transactions on your bank account(s).

The letter requests the bank to require a password be given before a deposit, withdrawal, or other transaction takes place on your account with the bank. For example, if the password you select is "Riverdeep" and you attempt to withdraw money from your account, the bank should require that you give your account password before the withdrawal is authorized.

1. The letter should be signed, but it is not necessary that the signature be witnessed or notarized.

2. Be sure to attach any documentation, if applicable.

3. Retain a copy of the letter for your records. Keep the original copies of any enclosures, unless you are required to send the originals. If you send an original, keep a copy.

4. After a resonable amount of time has passed, follow up to make sure that any requested action was actually taken.
