Free Notice of Death to an Insurance Company

It may be a requirement that proof of your authority be provided. Obviously, you are not the person who died, and the insurance company may not want to terminate the policy unless you prove your authority. Required proof might include a court document that appoints an "executor," "administrator," or "personal representative," to act on behalf of an estate. If such a document is not available, the insurance company may have other documentation that must be signed by you in order to complete the process.

This Notice of Death is used to advise an insurance company that an auto or homeowners policy can be terminated because of the death of the policy owner.

A policy should not be terminated until the insurance coverage is no longer needed. If insurance coverage will be needed for a longer period of time after the death, an insurance company representative or agent should be contacted regarding premium payments and to make sure that insurance coverage will continue for the desired amount of time.

1. The Notice of Death to an Insurance Company should be signed, but it is not necessary that the signature be witnessed or notarized.

2. If you so indicated, be sure to include evidence that you are the executor, personal representative, surviving spouse, or other authorized person to issue the notice and request the refund.

3. Retain a copy for your records.
