Free Dispute Fraudulent Credit Card Transaction

This letter provides notice to the credit card company that there is unauthorized activity on your card and that you should not be held responsible for those charges. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act you should contact the credit card company within sixty (60) days of receiving the statement with the unauthorized activity. There may be other important information in the "fine print" on your statement that explains procedures that you should follow.

When you receive a credit card statement you should carefully review it for possible errors or fraudulent activity. If there are charges on the credit card that were not authorized, then you should dispute them by sending this letter to the credit card company.

The credit card company may require that you include evidence such as photocopies of an ID Theft Affidavit, a filed Police Report, any letters to credit bureaus requesting the account be removed from your credit report, etc. Contact the credit card company to determine what additional information, if any, may be required.

Photocopies, not the original copies, of any relevant documents should be included with the letter (unless otherwise required by the company). You should keep a copy of all written communications with the credit card company and maintain a written summary of all oral communications.

1. The letter should be signed, but it is not necessary that the signature be witnessed or notarized.

2. Be sure to attach any evidence of the incident.

3. Retain a copy of the letter for your records. Keep the original copies of any enclosures, unless you are required to send an originals. If you send an original, keep a copy.

4. Check your next statement to make sure that the disputed items have been removed

5. Although not required, sending the letter in a manner that can be tracked (e.g., overnight courier or certified mail/return receipt requested) is highly advisable. It may assist you in the even you need evidence of receipt of the letter.
