You should update your Power of Attorney when your life circumstances change significantly, or when you need to appoint a new agent.

You should update your Power of Attorney in the following situations, for example:

• You have married, and want to designate your spouse as your agent.
• You have divorced or become separated from your former spouse.   Since it's likely that your spouse was your appointed agent, you'll want to name a new agent.
• Your appointed agent is deceased, incapacitated or is otherwise unable to handle the responsibility of being your agent.  
• You no longer trust or have confidence in your agent's ability to handle your finances.
• There are changes in your state's laws which affect the legality of your Power of Attorney document.

How to Update Your Power of Attorney
