Filing a Complaint with the FTC

If you have been a victim of ID theft, in addition to filing a complaint with the police and credit company, you can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). You can use their online complaint form, call their Identity Theft Hotline at 1-877-ID-THEFT (438-4338), or write to:

Identity Theft Clearinghouse, Federal Trade Commission
       600 Pennsylvania Avenue
       NW, Washington D.C., 20580

When filing a complaint with the FTC, you can include the printed copy of your police complaint form (which you submitted to the police when completing your Identity Theft Report).  Filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission can provide you and others with additional protection, as the information you list in your complaint also helps the FTC track down identity thieves around the nation.
