The best thing to do if you have a dispute is try to resolve it without involving other parties. The dispute may simply be the result of poor communication. Contact the person or company, and request clarification or additional information.

If the complaint is against a company or a business, write to a superior within the company or a Consumer Protection Agency. Put the issues in writing and request that the other party take the time to consider your points. Offer to compromise.

If you reach a settlement, the agreement should be documented. Make sure the document contains all the important points of agreement and that it is signed by both parties.

If the issue cannot be resolved in a friendly manner, you may want to consider small claims court.

It's important to file suit promptly after realizing that no settlement can be reached since most states have laws requiring lawsuits to be filed within a certain period of time. If you need to find a lawyer to help with a lawsuit, it's easy with Rocketlawyer.
