The hiring process is protected by Federal anti-discrimination laws. Questions related to race, religion, nationality, age, gender, or disabilities cannot be asked during a job interview.

In addition to these Federal laws, each state has its own discrimination laws. At the state level there may be laws governing what you can be asked about your marital status, sexual preference, or if you have ever been arrested or convicted of a crime. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, questions about your medical status or prior work injuries are not permitted.

Generally, the questions you are asked during a job interview should relate to the specific requirements of the job, your qualifications, and your past work history.
